Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will personally send off on Monday a 15-member humanitarian team to provide relief and medical help to the victims of cyclone in Myanmar, reported local radio DZBB on Sunday.
The team will depart from the Villamor Air Base in Manila on board a Philippine Air Force C-130 cargo plane and will work in the country for two weeks, said the report.
Led by Senator Richard Gordon, who is also chairman of the Philippine Red Cross, the team will bring with them medicines, relief goods and supplies, as well as a donation of 300,000 U.S. dollars from the Philippines.
The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs said the Philippine Embassy in Yangon is laying down preparations for the conduct of relief operations in Myanmar's Irrawady delta region, which was severely battered by the cyclone.
